With the growing threat of violence, it’s important to understand the different levels of body armor available. Today we’ll discuss level 4 body armor, and whether it is the highest level of protection available.
Level IV body armor is the highest rating given to personal body armor, and is designed to offer the wearer the greatest amount of protection against high-velocity rifle rounds. It is typically composed of hard ceramic or steel plates that are capable of stopping .30 caliber armor-piercing (AP) rounds from penetrating through. Level IV body armor can also stop lesser rounds such as 5.56mm rounds from M193 and M855 ammunition, which are commonly used in modern military assault rifles.
Level IV body armor is most often worn by military personnel, law enforcement officers, and security guards who may find themselves in dangerous situations that require maximum protection. It should be noted that while level IV body armor offers a great deal of protection against rifle rounds, it does not provide complete protection against all types of bullets. For example, some AP rounds may still penetrate through depending on their composition and velocity.
Furthermore, level IV body armor may not be able to protect against other types of threats such as explosions or fragmentation from grenades or IEDs (improvised explosive devices). To protect against these threats additional safety measures must be taken such as wearing additional protective gear or taking cover behind a barrier or shield.
Level IV body armor is the highest rating given to personal body armor for offering maximum protection against high-velocity rifle rounds. While it offers a great deal of protection against certain types of bullets, it does not provide complete bulletproofing from all types of weapons or threats such as explosives or fragmentation grenades. For those looking for the highest levels of protection in dangerous situations, level IV body armor may be your best option – but additional protective measures should always be taken when possible.
