The performance of a police officer should not be a gender war. Often, female police officers themselves compare their accomplishments to the men who wear the same uniform. The fact is that there is no need for such a comparison. Ability and effectiveness are not a function of gender. Ability is simply based on a combination of experience, training, and integrity.
Over the years, there have been an ongoing effort to demonstrate that women should not be judged better or worse than men but held to the standard of performance expected of all officers and given equal consideration. This post is dedicated to highlighting few areas where female cops have been peculiar in the execution of their roles both as a professional and as a person.
- Dedication
Female police officers are dedicated to their jobs. In fact, due to the baseless perception that women must prove themselves as worthy of their positions in law enforcement, many go above and beyond on the job, investing a great amount of energy and focus to doing the job to the best of their abilities.
- Support
Women in uniform are supported in their jobs by their coworkers because officers on the job recognize others who are dedicated to public defense and protection regardless of external attributes. Female officers are supportive of others in the department, recognizing the need for a cohesive team response to crises in the community.
- Highly Trained and Qualified
Women are rigorously trained in their duties and work hard to maintain all qualifications and certifications throughout the course of their careers.
- Family-oriented
Female officers are not only supportive of their colleagues in uniform but also of the people who are supporting them back home. With families and friends rallied around them, part of why many women in law enforcement chose their career was to help ensure the safety of the people they love.
